Increase is reduced in town parking scheme

Just two weeks after announcing a 400 per cent rise from next month in the annual cost of privileged parking in Stopford Road and St Mark’s Road, Environment president Deputy Maurice Dubras yesterday told the States that the initial increase would be pegged at £150.

This is the charge for the first year of the trial and is £90 less than planned.

The increase comes into effect on 5 November.Environment met yesterday lunchtime to discuss the furore caused by their decision to put the annual fee up to £600 from next May.
