According to the president of the energy group of the Assemblée Nationale, Claude Gatignol, the site is one of a number which are being looked at with the idea of creating two new pressurised water reactors.Dr Gatignol was in Jersey yesterday to speak to States Members about French energy policy and the French government’s drive to increase energy output.Flamanville, which is some 30 miles from Jersey on the French coast, was the preferred option of Dr Gatignol himself – he is a Deputy for La Manche département and said that in last year’s elections he received between 70 and 80 per cent of the available vote in the Flamanville district, based on his undertaking that he would strive to have the new reactors built there rather than at any of the other suggested sites.
