Mrs King, who was proposed by Advocate Julian Clyde-Smith and seconded by Deputy Maurice Dubras, started her career in the UK in nursing, rising swiftly through the ranks to principal nursing officer at St George’s Hospital in Hyde Park.As nurse planner she was on the team responsible for the planning and relocation of St George’s to the new site in south London.A founder member of Jersey Hospice Care, she has remained chairman of the advisory and management committee and is currently vice chairman.Mrs King was contacted immediately after the electoral college vote by her proposers to inform her of her victory.She said afterwards: ‘I was slightly overwhelmed and absolutely delighted.

Mr Wavell was a very strong candidate.’Mrs King will take the oath of office on 6 November.
