The Children’s Service are about to overhaul the entire fostering system to bring expenses payments in line with UK recommended minimums, and then to introduce professional foster carers as an alternative to placing youngsters in children’s homes.A foster parent in Jersey can expect to receive an average of £38 per week less than their UK equivalent.

And while UK foster parents are given extra funding on top of their allowances, Jersey carers receive nothing.Islanders who host Swedish students during the summer are paid £800 for a fortnight, while a foster parent caring for an 18-year-old receives £285 for the same amount of time.
