Environment president Deputy Maurice Dubras said that the current oil spill contingency plan, produced in 1996, needs updating and a group comprising officers from Planning and Environment, Public Services, Harbours and Airport and Health has been set up to carry out the review. They are expected to report back in time for the Deputy to take their findings to the next meeting of the environmental sectoral group of the British-Irish Council.Deputy Dubras said: ‘Measures are in place to deal with an oil spill within Jersey’s territorial waters, but they need updating because they currently only focus on actions to deal with oil pollution in the event of an accident.’
