The prisoners from the adult male wing stayed in the recreation room two hours after they were meant to be locked in their cells for the night.The demonstration happened on Monday 13 October, but details only emerged this week.Prison Governor Mike Kirby said the prisoners returned to the cells after he went to talk to them about their concerns.
He added that the situation was under control at all times and that he felt ‘perfectly safe’ while talking to them.The prisoners were protesting about conditions at the overcrowded prison and particularly about the size of the visiting room where inmates meet their wives, families and friends.
