The average salary for Guernsey workers is £500 a week – £27,037 a year – according to figures released today by the island’s Advisory and Finance Committee.It is £4,300 a year more than Jersey’s, although Guernsey people pay more income tax.
A married couple with an income of £30,000 would pay £3,000 in tax whereas a Jersey couple would pay £2,228.The Guernsey salary is £5,000 in excess of the average in the Isle of Man.
And it is nearly two years out of date.
Advisory and Finance officials admit being embarrassed by the figure and what have been described as the fairly primitive methods of calculating it.
