Officers to discuss overtime concerns

Secretary of the Jersey Prison Officers Association Shawn Holmes said today it was common for staff to do 20 hours of overtime on top of a 40-hour week and not unusual for officers to work for two or three weeks without a day off.He said: ‘Family relationships are suffering because some officers’ children are asleep when they get home and a strain is being put on personal relationships,’ he said.Emphasising that there was no sense of mutiny and that staff were fully supportive of prison governor Mike Kirby, he said the situation had been reached because of the presence of increasingly high numbers of inmates in the prison.
