GOLF:Juniors gain their places on School of Excellence scheme

They are Georgia Wallace, Chris Young, Charlie Johnson, Matthew Nicolle and Sam de la Haye.The quintet were all successful after taking part in trials last week during the schools’ half term break, at La Moye and Royal Jersey Golf Clubs.Royal Jersey assistant professional Oliver Darby said: ‘The School’s intention was to take two or three players from the trials but the standard was good so we’ve decided to take on a further five, taking the School’s total up to 12.’The new intake are 12 and 13-year-olds and all have good potential.

Last week’s trials enabled us to see around 30 players and we’re looking forward to working with the newcomers.’The successful students will each have one individual coaching session with a professional each month.

During school holidays they will also work together as a group and play a match against staff of School sponsors PwC.The PwC Golf School of Excellent aims to produce the Island’s future golfing champions.

It offers quality training and coaching sessions on all aspects of the game including competitive play.
