Budget ‘will harm Island’s economy’

Both groups fear that proposals to cap mortgage interest relief, increase stamp duty, Vehicle Registration Duty (VRD) and fuel tax will have a detrimental knock-on effect on the Island’s economy.The Jersey Estate Agents Association and the Jersey Motor Trades Federation intend to air their concerns with Finance before next month’s Budget debate.Estate Agents Association president Alan Maclean says they will go further and urged the public to act.

‘We feel home owners should get out there and lobby their politicians and get some sense knocked into the equation,’ he said.And Jersey Motor Trades Federation spokesman Peter Tabb said Finance’s proposals were simply short-term devices to solve the States’ economic difficulties.
