Island cadet’s Albert Hall honour

Cadet Sgt Alex Pett has been selected to carry the standard at the ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall on behalf of the 40,000 cadets in the British Isles.

Members of the Royal British Legion, the Royal Family, government ministers and representatives of every branch of the armed forces will be present, and the service will be broadcast around the world by the BBC.Alex said that this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

‘It is a tremendous honour and privilege,’ he said.

‘It will be a poignant reminder of all those people who have laid their lives on the line.

I shall just feel respect for them – a great deal of respect.’The 18-year-old Victoria College prefect is currently studying for A-levels in chemistry, biology and psychology and has been a cadet for the past four years.

He plays football, runs, swims and cycles, and is also in the 1st XI hockey team.
