Farmers ‘are losing out on direct aid’

He is concerned that a substantial amount of the budget of the former Department of Agriculture is to be transferred to the new Department of the Environment without being cut, or without the farming industry being able to take advantage of economies that in some cases they have themselves proposed.Farmers, he said, were promised by the Economic Development Committee that economies made in the administration of agriculture would be reapplied in the form of direct aid.
