Deputy Geoff Southern, a regular critic of the Finance and Economics Committee, has put forward two amendments to the 2004 Budget that will see £255,000 set aside for a 20 per cent subsidy for television licences for senior citizens and which would see £184,000 set aside for school milk.Under the amendments, anyone aged over 65 and living in domestic accommodation could receive a 20 per cent subsidy for their television licence.

In his report to the amendment, Deputy Southern said that the £116 needed for a television licence was sometimes too large an amount for elderly people on fixed incomes to come up with all at once. The second amendment would see £184,000 added to the revenue budget of the Economic Development Committee specifically for school milk.

In his report, Deputy Southern wrote that following a debate earlier this year, the Finance and Economics Committee was asked to find funds for school milk, but no concrete assurance had been given yet.
