Stranded students ‘not members of the public’

The teenagers were told the bus had not pulled over because they were not ‘members of the public’.The bus twice drove straight past eight Le Rocquier pupils at a stop in Georgetown on Monday and Tuesday morning, making them late for school.Connex say there would have been no room for commuters on the 2c service if they had picked up the teenagers, even though the bus displays a sign saying school bus vouchers are valid.Katie Dix (15) said: ‘It wasn’t a case of us missing the bus, the bus missed us.

We went to school on Monday thinking it was a one off, but on Tuesday we stuck our arms out, but the bus didn’t indicate and drove straight past again.’Assistant operation manager for Connex Philip Searle said he was sorry the students had been left stranded. He said the driver thought the teenagers should have caught the school bus, adding that there was not enough room for both commuters and the school pupils. However, he admitted that the children did have as much right to use the bus as other Islanders, apologised and said it would not happen again.
