Following announcements last week by Environment and Public Services of proposals to reduce a number of Connex services next year, Senator Vibert has labelled the bus service ‘an expensive shambles’.’The service cuts are an absolute disgrace and make a mockery of the promised whole new era for bus travel.
The much-vaunted bus strategy presented to the States last year is now in the wastepaper bin,’ said the Senator.Meanwhile, he is urging a review of plans to cut the school bus service to save £150,000.
‘These proposals would create a two-tier school transport system.
It is scandalous,’ he said. The Senator said that the only way out of the ‘current bus mess’ was for Environment and Public Services to get together with Jersey Bus – who run Easy Link – school bus operator Tantivy and Connex to work out ways for them all to co-operate to provide a decent and economic bus service that can service all Islanders and tourists. He argued that for more than 30 years the Island had had a satisfactory bus service run by Jersey Bus that cost taxpayers nothing.
