Rugby World Cup: Day-trip to Australia

A very reasonable £1,550 per head, according to Kyran Bracken’s sister, Jane Jenkins, who left Jersey on Thursday and was back again on Monday having watched her brother take part in the Rugby World Cup.Rather sadly, Matt Dawson played scrum-half throughout the match, relegating Kyran to the subs’ bench, but he’d played in the preliminary rounds and was a valued squad player.’He was very disappointed not to get on, but felt part of the team,’ she said, back in Jersey this morning. For her the highlight, apart from the final, was the after-match meal only attended by players, wives and immediate relatives at the Opium restaurant, attended also by Prince Harry.’We were able to talk to the players,’ she said, ‘but they seemed almost in a state of shock.

I don’t think they realised what a big occasion it had been.’So, 28 hours after arriving, Jane and husband David were back in their seats for what was to be a total of 106 hours of travel for a match, and a day, they will remember for the rest of their lives.

Kyran was due to travel to Jersey this week to turn on the Christmas lights but instead will be back on club duty, playing in Saracens’ home game, at 3 pm, on Sunday.
