Jailed man ‘a risk to young people’

Steven Ollivier (32) admitted two indecent assaults on young girls, aged 13 and 14, who were both fully clothed at the time of the attacks.

He admitted simulating intercourse with one of them, and giving a lovebite to another as she lay drunk on a bed. Both assaults happened this year when the defendant was staying at a friend’s house, where young girls often stayed for extended periods of time. The court heard from Crown Advocate Alan Binnington that Ollivier had an appalling record of sexual attacks on women and girls, including convictions for rape, indecent assaults and acts of gross indecency.

His first such conviction, said the advocate, was when he was 18 years old and was caught having sex with a 13-year-old girl. Those who had examined him said he was ‘a substantial threat to women and is at a high risk of reoffending’, said Advocate Binnington, who added that Ollivier had shown no remorse, and had tried to justify what he had done.Ollivier’s lawyer, Advocate Nuno Santos Costa, said that while the court was appalled by the crime, they had to sentence his client on the facts of the case.In the assault on the 14-year-old, he said there were five other people in the room at the time, and that the incident assault lasted just seconds.

On the second charge, Advocate Santos Costa said that Ollivier had effectively written his own indictment, as the 13-year-old had passed out at the time, and remembered nothing of the incident.A total sentence of two years was passed by the court.

The Deputy Bailiff, Michael Birt, was sitting with Jurats Bullen and Allo.
