Drink-drivers warned: ‘You will be caught’

The seasonal clampdown was launched following the release of figures which show drink-driving offences to be on the increase.Drivers will be asked to take breath tests in road checks across the Island from today until 5 January, when the campaign ends, as officers clamp down on festive drinkers who get behind the wheel.

The number of people caught over the limit has increased this year, with 262 people caught by the end of November compared with 272 for the whole of 2002.Of those who have failed breath and blood tests this year, 86 per cent were men and 15 per cent were aged under 20.
