Two men, aged 17 and 21, who were picked up close to the scene of the attack were questioned about the attack and released, but the weapon, described as a small samurai sword, has not been found.The incident took place in Clarence Road at about 6.30 pm on Saturday and is believed to have been witnessed by the occupants of several cars driving past.

The 22-year-old victim is not thought to have been seriously injured.P insp Bernie Noel said that the investigating officers thought that the attackers were known to the victim.

The officer stressed that this sort of incident was still rare in the Island, but added: ‘Any kind of weapon used in an assault on the streets is of serious concern to us.

We know that a number of vehicles drove past and we would like to speak to those drivers.’Witnesses should call the police on 612612.
