Football:Saints favourites to lift Willis Cup

The Saints will be hot favourites to win as they will be fielding their first team while their opponents are Rozel’s Reserves.

The Willis Cup competition is not open to registered Division I players therefore Rozel’s players are all playing in Reserves Division II this season.Saints manager Colin Pack said: ‘Yes we’ll be favourites but to me that counts for nothing.

It’s a cup final, a one-off game.

Rozel will not be underestimated by us, they must be a good side because they beat Grouville to get to the final and Grouville are currently running away with our division.’St Clement too are on a good run having won ten of their last 12 games, their only defeat was 2-0 against St Paul’s in the Le Riches Cup.’We have an excellent team spirit,’ said Pack, adding: ‘It’s been a team effort and although defender Jason Frazer is leaving it to the last minute to see if he is fit, I hope he is because he is a big influence in the team.’He is a good organiser, he always wants to win and to me he wears his heart on his sleeve.’Goalkeeper Fabio Fernandes is also having a good season for the Saints while Matt Scriven and Tom Cummins are influential in attack.’Rozel’s only doubt is goalkeeper Steve Falle, he is recovering from a dislocated thumb.Rovers manager Kevin Ganly said: ‘Steve will make his decision later today but we have cover as junior Scott Malorey is in the squad.’We’re looking forward to the game and we know it will not be easy.

We worked very hard to beat Grouville in the semi-final and I hope we can produce a similar performance tonight.’My players have good ability and their spirit is unbelievable.

We have a strong backbone to the side and everyone works hard to pull things together all the time.’St Clement have had some good results in the competition too, so it promises to be a close and exciting game.’Kick-off is at 7.30 pm.St Clement: Fabio Fernandes, Chris Young, Jason Mundy, Paul Singh, Dave Heaven, Robin Pitcher, Matt Porter, Tom Cummins, Matt Scriven, John Molloy, Michael Ruane, Mark Freeman, Dave Hughes, Ronnie Anderson, Jason Frazer, Danny Hawgood and Paul O’Reilly.Rozel Rovers: Steve Falle, Scott Malorey, Jerry O’Shea, Andy Godfray, Karl Megaw, Stuart Siddall, Bruce Bell, David Reid, David Nolan, Anthony McGovern, David Brennan, Paul Roberts, Clive Malone, Michael Fernandes, Ben Doherty, Tony Zonfrillo and Lee Kent.
