Prisoners’ leave is reviewed

States Members were told today by Home Affairs Committee president Senator Wendy Kinnard that the new system would be in place in time to allow home leave over Christmas.The majority of home leave was cancelled following a number of breaches of the system, including a prisoner given compassionate leave to attend a relative’s funeral in Madeira who never returned.The tougher stance, following publication of the review carried out by former chief probation officer Dr Debbie King, will lead to any prisoner breaching its conditions being removed from the scheme.
