States parking permits issued – and withdrawn

Although the permits were handed out during the lunch adjournment of yesterday’s States sitting, Members noticed they prominently displayed the name of the politician who held the permit.

Public Services then withdrew the permits and said they would reissue them later.Deputy Ben Fox, formerly a crime prevention officer for the States Police, said that the permits were unacceptable.

‘I do not need to use the permit,’ said the Deputy.

‘And I would not use it anyway because as an ex-crime prevention officer, I think it puts the recipient vehicle at risk because it names an individual.’Yesterday’s events are the latest installment of a saga that has inspired a backlash from the public as well as some States Members.

The States committees involved – the Environment and Public Services Committee and the Privileges and Procedures Committee – have both denied responsibility for the six-month trial that will allow States Members to park in any public car park for free, at any time.
