Police chief Graham Power has called for a change in UK law because police in Jersey have access only to limited information on people who want to work with children or vulnerable adults.Crown dependencies were overlooked when the Criminal Records Bureau was set up two years ago and police in Jersey have access only to information on serious convictions. If they want to see records of less serious offences or past charges against people they have to rely on their counterparts in the UK to do the checks for them. The Jersey police force carry out 6,000 criminal record checks a year, but the law needs to be changed to allow them do so themselves.
