And outward mail volumes are around ten per cent higher than the same period last year.

The reason, say Jersey Post, is entirely due to increased volumes of packages being posted from the Island as a result of a growing move to ‘online’ shopping, and companies basing their fulfilment operations in the Island.

By Tuesday Jersey Post had delivered 2.5 million items, and it was also the heaviest delivery day so far, with 223,094 items (almost twice the normal delivery load).It is employing 250 full-time postmen and postwomen, and a total of 9,074 overtime hours have been clocked up.

There are 60 additional casual staff, who have worked 3,026 hours.The Christmas deadline for local letters is Tuesday, 23 December.
