St Mary were defeated 3-0 by St Martin at Les Quennevais with juniors Matthew Westwood notching a brace of goals and Peter Vincenti one.St Mary Connétable Ken Le Brun said: ‘We are very pleased with the result, it was nice to have an even game for a change because in recent years we’ve been unlucky to have drawn big parishes like St Brelade and St Clement.’A bit of luck too and we could well have been leading at half-time by the odd-goal instead of trailing 1-0.

Gary Westwood pushed a shot onto the crossbar while Lee Pederick only had the goalkeeper to beat but unfortunately for us he put his effort wide of the goal.’We tired at the finish but that was expected because our team included only three players who play regularly.’St Mary’s Simon Fitchett spent the night in hospital with a facial injury sustained in an awkward fall.St Martin player/manager Gary Westwood said: ‘It was enjoyable, St Mary gave a good account of themselves and really we should have had several more goals but we missed some excellent opportunities.’Tom Perchard slotted in well in the centre of defence for us while Colin Dumond made a big difference when he came on after arriving late from work.

Overall it was a good effort and we’re now looking forward to playing St Saviour.’Westwood’s son Matthew slotted home a loose ball to give the Easterners a half-time lead and 12 minutes from the end the teenager was involved again, his corner kick providing Vincenti with a far-post headed goal to make it 2-0.After Clive Hansford had replaced his son Ross for St Mary for the closing ten minutes, young Westwood completed the scoring when he crashed home a 35-yard effort after making a run from the half-way line.First round matches to be played on Saturday 27 December are: St Ouen v St Brelade (2.30 pm, St Ouen); St Lawrence v St Clement (1.30 pm, St Lawrence); St Saviour v St Martin (1.30 pm, Clos des Pauvres) and St Peter v St John (1.30 pm, St Peter).St Mary: Neil Osmand; Ross Hansford, David Richardson, Darren Le Brun, Erik Le Brun; Jeremy Le Rossignol, Ollie Nightingale, Bradley Vautier, Simon Fitchett, Charlie du Feu; Lee Pederick.
