The president of the Jersey Pedigree Whippet Racing Club, Stephen Lawson, said he believes the cars are former Five Oaks garages stock. The dog racing club lease the track opposite the Furniture Company premises – the old B & Q site – from their former president Denis Nicolle snr.

They also say that the site is designated by Planning and Environment only for use as a track for whippet racing.’We are being denied access to the racetrack and the storage sheds we lease at La Minoterie in St John by a huge number of vehicles we are reliably informed belonged to Five Oaks garages that are completely blocking access to the site.’Even if the cars were moved today, it would be impossible to get things organised before Boxing Day.

We have been using Mr Nicolle’s La Minoterie fields in St John since 1990 and been running Boxing Day meetings for 30 years,’ he said. The club are now desperate to find new premises before the new season starts at the beginning of April next year.

The club need a ‘flat-ish’ strip of land about 150 metres long by about 15 metres wide in order to be able to train and race pedigree whippets.

‘We also need an area for parking cars as when the dogs are not racing they are kept in the vehicles,’ said Mr Lawson. And the club would need to be able to locate storage sheds that house equipment on any new site.
