And the first arrest has been made of someone driving in the morning who was still over the limit from the night before’s drinking.Insp Sara Garwood said that a total of 5,832 vehicles had been stopped and that 64 people had been breathalysed as a result.

In total nine were arrested for being over the drink drive limit while another four were arrested for failing to provide a breath specimen.

The first person to be arrested the morning after drinking the night before was stopped at 8 am on Saturday.

Insp Garwood said: ‘The next morning is just as important and people do have to think about what they have drunk.’And she warned those who think that by taking the back roads home they will avoid detection that they are wrong.

‘You will get caught eventually.

We are going to be wherever we think people are going to be driving,’ she said.
