The trailer broke at a crucial moment, punching a hole in the bow of the red-hulled Orkney Strikeliner causing it to take on water.It was a case of many hands saving the day as, with the help of nearby surfers and other fishermen, the vessel was eventually dragged to shore in a tricky manoeuvre in which the tractor towing the boat’s trailer was swamped by waves.No one was hurt in the incident.
