Move to open up official information

Proposals lodged with the States would see agendas, supplementary agendas and supporting papers all opened up to the public, and tighter guidelines imposed on what can remain secret.The Privileges and Procedures Committee have lodged the Code of Practice on Public Access to Official Information: Measures to Improve Implementation.

It has been backed by Policy and Resources.Privileges say that there should be increased information for greater transparency in decision-making and accountability.

By opening up access to agenda support papers – including correspondence and reports for committees – they say that the current ‘less than satisfactory’ situation would be improved.
