Retailers in and outside St Helier reported a brisk and encouraging start to the post-Christmas sales as Islanders, refreshed by the two-day break and armed with vouchers and cash, hit the streets.The traditional queues formed outside A de Gruchy, and Voisins and Woolworths experienced record-breaking sales on Saturday.The Homemaker store in Don Street and Le Lievre’s also had a busy day, even though the latter’s sale does not start until 6 January.

Homemaker manager Colin Gaskill said the level of business was very encouraging, considering how tough it has been for the retail industry of late.
