Mother of two Valerie Johnston, who lives in Aubin Lane with her husband Shaun and children Alexandra (4) and Zara (2), said the crashing down of the tree was strangely silent as it shattered the car’s windscreen and dented the bonnet.Branches also came to rest against the windows of the house without any of the panes being smashed. The position of the tree trunk against the front gate made it necessary for Mrs Johnston to remain indoors for the morning but her children did not seem to mind as they had their new Christmas toys to play with.
