In the year that the Island celebrates 800 years of its unique constitutional position, the limits of its powers have been defined by a new regulation, which came into force yesterday.After years of tortuous negotiation between Island representatives, France and the UK, a maritime boundary has been agreed which clearly shows where Jersey law begins and ends.

The line extends out to 12 miles beyond Jersey’s shores and includes the Minquiers and Ecréhous reefs – which have long been the subject of dispute between Jersey and France.
