States jobs to go as cash cuts bite

Committee president Deputy Gerald Voisin has announced proposed cuts which would help to trim his committee’s annual budget by £1.7 million. The 20 staff affected have not been publicly identified but have been told about the proposals.

They work in the agricultural section of the department. The job cuts reflect the downturn in the agricultural industry as well as the requirements of the States’ Fundamental Spending Review process.

A final decision on the cuts will be made by Economic Development on 3 March, but Deputy Voisin said that the end result might be more or fewer job losses than the current proposals of 20 posts – which is about a third of the current staff.
