Three million passengers for Bmibaby

The British Midland offshoot, which flies to Jersey from Cardiff and East Midlands, said that it had been ‘overwhelmed’ by the response.

The airline took off in March 2002 and currently has a fleet of 13 aircraft flying to 43 destinations in the UK, Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland, Switzerland, Italy, France, the Czech Republic and Jersey.

mibaby took over from British Midland on the Jersey-East Midlands route in October 2002, when it also launched a service between Jersey and Cardiff.

Although the airline does not publish statistics for individual routes, its managing director, Tony Davis, said that flights to and from Jersey were proving popular.

Bmibaby is delighted with the progress of its services between the UK and Jersey,’ he said.

‘The airline remains committed to establishing links with the Channel Islands and in March a new daily service will start between Jersey and Manchester.

The link with Manchester is part of a programme of expansion which includes the development of Manchester and Teesside airports as major hubs.

eanwhile, Air Southwest, which will launch a service between Jersey, Plymouth and Bristol on 2 April, has announced that it is receiving 11,000 hits a week on its website after two months of operation.

It is also flying 11 per cent more passengers out of Plymouth and Newquay than British Airways, which it replaced when BA stopped flying between these airports and Gatwick in October.
