Support for new community centre in St Saviour

More than 70 residents turned out to discuss the £1.5 million project and proposals from Housing to form a residents association in Clos Gosset. The centre is being built by the Jack Falle Foundation, established last year in memory of the founder of Falles Garages, on land behind Gordon Le Breton Close.Plans are currently on display in Checkers Superstore. The centre has been designed in consultation with the parish, Youth Service and existing community centres.

The building will include a sports hall, meeting rooms, toddlers play area, youth club and kitchen. The scheme was made possible by an anonymous donation of £500,000 and the Falle family donated the land.

The parish has to find £1m to complete the project. An assembly will be held in the coming weeks to seek parishioners approval to borrow the money from the States, to be paid back at a fixed rate over 20 years. The meeting also produced support for a residents association in Clos Gosset.

Housing’s estates manager Carl Mavity said following the emergence of residents willing to work on behalf of the estate and their neighbours, another meeting would be arranged to formalise the group by agreeing a constitution and electing representatives.Once this had been achieved, he added, the residents would be able to be involved in decisions about how the estate was run.
