New crossing for ‘death trap’

They have won a year-long battle with Public Services to get a new lollipop crossing in Rue de la Ville ès Renards, the main road into Gorey from the south.Starting today, it will be in operation from 8.30 am to 9 am and again from 2.55 pm to 3.15 pm.States police road safety officer Philip Blake said: ‘We would ask all motorists to take extra care when driving in the area while the patrol is in operation during term time.’Grouville Deputy Carolyn Labey, who described the busy road crossing as a ‘death trap’, said it had taken far too long for action to be taken, despite the protests of many people in the parish.She added: ‘I am delighted that this school has finally got its crossing because, in cases like this, children’s safety is of paramount importance.’
