Four more barons join the celebrations

They are jewellery designers Catherine Best Studio, the Jersey Arts Trust, the Living Legend and Channel Hotels and Properties.Their contributions to the 800th anniversary celebrations of Jersey’s unique constitutional links to the Crown bring the number of barons to 37 and the total money raised to £11,254.The Guernsey jewellery designers, who recently opened in Jersey at St Peter’s Windmill, said they decided to become a baron because the celebrations were a great boost for Island tourism and they were looking forward to being part of the year-long programme of events. The scheme was launched last May to help promote the events and to increase awareness within Jersey’s business community regarding the importance and relevance of this special anniversary.

The financial objective is to generate sufficient income to make sure all the events can go ahead. While States committees are funding some 1204-2004 events, such as the Theatre in Education production to be premièred next month, and the commissioning of a historical book on the period, money has to be raised for other celebrations which include concerts, talks, exhibitions and drama performances. Each Business Baron receives recognition on the official website – www.1204-2004.je – and is permitted to use the official logo, as displayed on scheme member Connex’s buses.

They can also display a compliance certificate and receive regular news of the events.
