Tree surgeons John and Roy Pallot and their team spent two days working on the 18-ton oak because damp weather made the task a slippery one.The giant tree will not go to waste, however, because the trunk and branches will be used as climbing frames for the aye-ayes at Jersey Zoo.John Pallot said that because of the nature of its future use, the trunk was left in a large section.The operation will lead to eight lorry-loads including boughs and brushwood being transported to the Zoo – ensuring that there are enough places for the lemurs to swing and leap from to keep them fit and healthy.
