PETANQUE: In the final of the Jersey Petanque Club PBS Triples Competition held yesterday, the ladies competition was won by Maggie Allchurch, Joy Hart and Elaine Paisnel who beat beat Paula Foster, Gill Fowler and Odile Knight 13-1.

In the men’s competition, honours went to Dave Blanchard, Louie Bowen and Peter Guegan, who beat Noel Lillicrap, Dick Miller and Ken Vibert into second place 13-12.

ATHLETICS: The 80th anniversary meeting between Victoria College and Elizabeth College in the Hutchence Cup competition on Saturday was won by Victoria College by 105 points to 57.

ATHLETICS: The Jersey Spartan Athletic Club returned from the Wessex Leaguematch in Southampton yesterday with wins in all three of the age groups they took part in.

Jamie Stevenson won male field athlete of the match with his record-breaking discus throw of 41.71 and Amy Dingle won female track athlete of the match for her grade 1 hurdles time of 12 seconds.

CROQUET: The Charity Golf Croquet Tournament held on Saturday by the Jersey Croquet Club raised £200 for the Parkinson’s Disease Society.

The winners were R and J Marriott.

The Island Closed Singles Championship held yesterday was won by Matthew Burrow who beat Richard Sowerby in the best-of-three final CLAY PIGEON: A 50-bird sporting competition was held at the Crabbé Clay Pigeon Club yesterday.

Mark Andrews won the A class and was High Gun scoring 45 ex 50, Albert Able scored 41 ex 50 to win the B class and Paul Cragg won the C class with 37 ex 50.

In the English Skeet selection shoot for the Home international in Northern Ireland, Mark Andrews finished top with a personal best of 97 ex 100.

John de la Haye scored 95 and Bill Staite 90 ex 100, also a personal best.

SHOOTING: The Modern Military Arms Association held the XX’s Team Pistol Competition at Crabbe on Saturday.

The combined efforts of Noel Mallet, Ken Huish and Pete Le Sueur resulted in an overall score of 150.

This was enough to secure victory and give the trio the Twenties Team Pistol Shield for 2004.

GOLF: Roger de Sousa won the Demi Golf Society’s Hustle competition played at St Clements on Saturday, scorng 41 points to overcome second placed Jorge Moniz (38 points).

SURFING: The first round of the Longboard Summer Series took place at Secrets in St Ouen’s bay yesterday.

Grace Davies won the ladies event, while Joe Davies beat Matt Seymour to win the junior event.

Gordon Blake won the Open event, ahead of André Le Geyt.

PETANQUE: The Carrefour Pétanque Club held a Doubles Melee event at Les Quennevais on Saturday.

Pairs Maurice Richard and Brian Mollet, Keith Boléat and Carol Mollet, and Sid Simkins and Lawrence de la Haye each recorded three victories.

Richard and Mollet won the event, however, scoring 25 points to narrowly beat Boleat and Mollet who scored 23 points.

Simkins and De La Haye were third, scoring 17 points.

BOWLS: In Saturday’s Myrtle Le Marquand League results were: Jersey Bowling Club 17, Sun BC 13; JBC 16, SBC 21.

Score 2-2.

TENNIS: The Caesarean Tennis Men’s National Club League side won South Division I yesterday after they beat West Hants 4-2.

They now go forward to the play-offs which will be at home next month.

SHOOTING: Richard Benest won the JRA Gordon and Yvonne Pool trophy yesterday with a total score of 296.35, beating the overnight leader Wally Langley by two V bulls.

Langley’s final score was 296.33.

CYCLING: Jersey cyclists took the top five places in the weekend’s inter-insular time trial event, winner Steve Greig (CCC) covering the 22 miles in 53.31.

FENCING: The winner of the Jersey U10 Mixed Foil Fencing Championship held at the weekend was Danny White of St George’s School.

He beat Josh Fahy of the Regent Fencing Club.

BOWLS: The first leg of the Le Quesne inter-insular match was played in Guernsey yesterday.

Jersey finished with 132 points to Guernsey’s 67.

BOWLS: The winners of the Sun BC Dubois Trophy Charity Shield were Margaret Le Sueur (skip), Ken Hairon and Tony Osmont with 8 pts + 24 shots.

Runners-up were Austin Gillham (skip).

Fred Thornton and Anne Chamier with 8 pts + 7 shots.

Overall winner, however, was the Jersey Kidney Patients Association which will receive the £300 raised during the event.

MOTORSPORT: Current holders in the historic classes were the only ones to set new records in Saturday’s JMC&LCC sprint.

Ken Laurent lowered the historic bike class time by 14.40 secs and Robert Surcouf lowered the historic car class record to 16.92.

Fastest time of the day on two wheels went to Guernsey rider Kent Gavey with a time of 10.70 sec.

GOLF: Roy Le Chevalier won the Royal Jersey’s Renshaw Cup yesterday with nett 67 off 13 handicap.

SURFING: The second event of the Jersey Surfboard Club’s Freedom sponsored Junior Surf Series took place at the Watersplash at the weekend.

Winner of the novice class was Scott Simpson while Joe Davies won the longboard event.

U12 winner was Nathan Elms and Liam McFarling won the U15s while Josh Letherbarrow was top in the U18 category.

NETBALL: Jersey’s U14 netball squad finished a creditable fifth out of 20 teams competing in the UK at the weekend.

MOTORSPORT:Jersey driver Ryan Parouty finished in 8th place in the latest race of the Avon Tyres FF 1800 championship at Brands Hatch yesterday.

He qualified third-fastest on the grid, but mechanical problems slowed him down dramatically in the race itself.
