Keep Jersey green and control the population’

The findings are contained in the initial results of both the Imagine Jersey 2035 conference votes and the public survey.

Chief Minister Frank Walker said: ‘I did not go into the consultation exercise expecting or knowing what was going to come out of it. Very clearly there were three principle messages: recognition of the need to grow the economy, a need to continue to control population, and above all, to protect Jersey’s countryside.

‘Protecting the countryside does not necessarily mean that there will never again be a green field built on in Jersey, but the very clear message and focus is we should be concentrating on opportunities in St Helier and on brown field sites, and there are a considerable number of those opportunies.’
