The firm say that reports that Condor Ferries are up for sale have led it to accelerate plans to battle for business on the route from the Channel Islands to England.
However, it is unlikely that HD will be ready to begin services to England this summer.
It was reported last week that the Royal Bank of Scotland had appointed Deutsche Bank as advisers on a proposed £300 million sale of Condor.
Those reports have been denied by Condor and the Scottish bank. The ferry firm say that the company merely wanted to refinance some loans.
HD Ferries, who have not operated since October, are due to resume car ferry services from the Island to St Malo next month.
