Year in jail for drunken attack on 71-year-old

The court heard that Mark Tresidder (27) was with his young son when he struck the pensioner, who could not speak English, and left the man with a fear of what could happen to him in the future.

Crown Advocate Julian Gollop called for a two-year sentence, saying that it had been an unpleasant assault on an elderly man unable to defend himself.

Counsel for Tresidder, Advocate James Dickinson, said that his client was deeply ashamed and disgusted at his actions, which he realised could have had a lasting effect on his victim to whom he had sent a letter of apology translated into Portuguese.
