An audience of around 80 people were shown a slide presentation about the bold plans, which include a £20 million world-class gorilla complex which would enable the current population to increase from five to around 16.

At the event, in the Princess Anne Pavilion in Durrell’s grounds, trustee John Henwood urged those present who supported the plans to let it be known to their elected representatives.
He said: ‘It is absolutely critical that we have the support of the States because the first thing others outside the Island will ask is whether Jersey’s government is behind them.’
