Peter Hannaford (59) spent the first 12 years of his life as an orphan at the former children’s home.
Mr Hannaford, who is chairman of the Manual Workers Joint Council at the Transport and General Workers Union, has spoken publicly for the first time about his alleged harrowing experiences at the home.
‘The building has got to be erased from the ground and erased from people’s memories,’ he said. Mr Hannaford is one of the alleged victims who has spoken to Jersey police about the alleged abuse which is said to date back to the 1960s.
He said that he was raped and abused from his earliest memories to when he was 12 years old. He now wants ‘justice’ for all the children who were at Haut de la Garenne.
