The boat collided with the pier in rough weather, putting a hole in the hull just above the waterline.
Passengers were evacuated from the boat, the Condor Vitesse, following the accident at around 9 am.
The company says all passengers were put on other boats to complete their journey.
St Malo harbour master Bruno Lassus said this morning that rough conditions had made it difficult for the Vitesse to get away from its berth.
‘I think it was due to weather conditions,’ he said. ‘The strong wind from the north east was about 40 knots.’
