Centeniers ‘are not on duty 24/7’, says AG

Speaking at the quarterly Centeniers’ meeting, William Bailhache said that Centeniers should only become involved in police business which was criminal law.

They should not be involved in areas outside of their responsibility, including, for example, planning law breaches or civil claims following a road traffic accident.

Mr Bailhache, who is the titular head of the honorary police, said that obviously there would be times when a Centenier who was off duty could not look the other way, for example, if he saw a rape being committed.

But there were other occasions when the off-duty Centenier should take note of a problem and call the duty Centenier about it.
