Tower ladies keep their unbeaten tag

Against St John at La Hague Manor they ran out 5-1 winners following two goals from Jodie Botterill and singles by Kerry Sauvage, Laura Couvert and Louise Van Der Vliet. Jess Vieira replied for St John.

Tower manager Geoff Van Der Vliet said: ‘It’s nice to complete the league season without losing a game, and there was not much doubt about it yesterday, especially in the second half, when we played some good football after leading 2-1 at the break.

‘It’s a proud record to have, but it’s not the first time it has been done in the league. And conceding just nine goals has been a major contributing factor to our success. The back three and the goalkeeper have been very good all season. Jodie and Louise have an excellent understanding up front too, and they play off each other well.

‘The best goal of the game was Jess Vieira’s though. She made an excellent mazy run up the left wing and then fired in a shoot which flew into the top left corner of our goalkeeper’s goal.

‘St John played well in patches and I’m sure their performance will stand them in good stead for their Colin Welsh Trophy final at Springfield on Thursday against St Paul’s.

‘Our passing and movement was much improved from recent games and hopefully we can repeat yesterday’s performance in the Upton against Guernsey’s St Martin’s in two weeks’ time.’

Kirsty Duheaume scored direct from a corner in St Brelade’s 2-1 defeat by Grouville, the visitors registering their goals through substitute Lianne Le Feuvre and Lisa Godinho.
