A day of memories and living history

The Caledonian Pipe Band will lead the Island’s officials and this year’s guest of honour, the president of Madeira, from the States Building to the Square where the Dean, the Very Rev Bob Key, will begin the service of commemoration and thanksgiving.

The Bailiff, Sir Philip Bailhache, will say a few words before members of the Jersey Field Squadron re-enact the arrival of the British troops on 9 May 1945.

From midday, Islanders will be encouraged to walk across to the People’s Park for a day of living history at which local performers will recite Occupation poems and extracts from diary entries to illustrate some of the events and stories from the 1940s.
