Lenny Harper turns down book deal

THE policeman leading the Haut de La Garenne investigation into historic child abuse has turned down the offer of a book deal.

A UK literary agent wanted deputy police chief Lenny Harper to write his memoirs about his life in the force.

But Mr Harper — who has been accused of courting media attention in the Haut de la Garenne case — says that a book is the last thing on his mind while he is in charge of Jersey’s biggest alleged abuse inquiry.

Literary agent Robert Smith admitted contacting the Ulster-born officer, who is due to retire at the end of Agusut, but stressed that Mr Harper had said that he was not interested.
