Public’s view sought on nursery education

ISLANDERS are being asked to consider four options designed to create a fairer system of education for three and four-year-olds.

The Jersey Child Care Trust was commissioned by Education Minister Mike Vibert to undertake an independent consultation on the issue and then report on the outcomes.

The move follows a large number of reports and recommendations into childcare, most recently one by the Education and Home Affairs Scrutiny Panel. In that report the panel recommended that this debate be resolved in time for the September 2009 intake which means a decision must be taken by the States in the autumn.

Leaflets inviting Islanders to a consultation evening at Hautlieu School are being handed out to all childcare establishments and community centres in the Island. People are then asked to send their comments in directly to the JCCT or to register to attend the consultation evening on Thursday 3 July from 6.30 pm until 9.30 pm.
